Monash University Cheerleading and Dance Club was formed in 2012, when a couple of university students got together and decided to form a club dedicated to the amazing sport of dance and cheer. Our first uniforms were made out of some cheap material from spotlight and hand made by the first cohort!
Since then, MONCAD has grown to be a 180+ member strong university sporting club, bringing in great results and amazing experiences for all of our athletes. Our athletes have represented us at local to international competitions and have gained lifelong memories and friendships.
2025 saw one of the best results the club has ever achieved at UniSport Nationals. Team Monash sent 3 cheer teams, 4 dance teams and 4 dance duos up to the Gold Coast to compete against other universities and where not disappointed.
Our athletes walked away from an action-packed week with 10 gold medals, 1 bronze medal, the Cheer and Dance Champions banner and the Pennant Trophy.
2024 marks a huge milestone for MONCAD as we celebrate 10 years since our first international competition! Back in 2014, we made our debut on the world stage with a single team - Monash Mystics.
During this year, at the FISU World Cheerleading and Dance Championships in Split, Croatia, we proudly brought FOUR teams to represent MONCAD - all achieving incredible podium results. It’s a testament to how much our club has grown over the past decade, expanding in talent, passion, and community. We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes and this incredible journey!
Held in our home city of Melbourne, MONCAD smashed it at nationals! Our athletes achieved stella results with 6x 1st places, 4x 2nd places, 1x 3rd place, and taking the Grand Champion position for both the University Cheer and Dance divisions.
Our first interstate trip for 2023, Team Monash sent 3 cheer teams, 4 dance teams and 3 dance duos to the Gold Coast, to compete at UniSport Nationals. Our teams blitzed the competition, taking out a total of six gold medals and one silver medal, while our dance duos took home 2 gold medals and a silver medal.
We contributed to 2 out of the 6 Champion Pennants Monash University won that week, with our athletes taking both the Cheer and Dance Overall Grand Champions.
After our teams missing out on FISU WUCC multiple years in a row, we took our premier dance Pom, Hip Hop and advanced cheer team to the UCA and UDA University Worlds in Florida USA.
In 2 months, our 3 teams altered their routines to new team numbers and to suit the Worlds competition floor. Training practically non-stop from AASCF Nationals, the dedication and talent of our athletes was rewarded with two gold medals and a silver, along with the opportunity to do a demonstration run in front of the NCA/NDA Nationals competition. The demonstration was in front of a packed crowd of 8000, and is surely a memory all teams will treasure forever!
In 2022, our teams dominated at the AASCF 2022 National Championships. MONCAD took out Grand Champions in both cheer and dance, scoring the highest scores across all university teams to do so.
Dance Royalty - Minerva (Premier Pom team)
Cheer Grand Champions - Apollo (Intermediate team)
FISU Grand Champions - Atlas (Advanced team)
Our dance duos started our Nationals trip off with gold wins in Jazz duos and Hip Hop duos.

In 2018, MONCAD was selected to represent Australia by Unisport Australia as the UniRoos at the 2018 FISU World University Cheerleading Championships in Lodz, Poland. The athletes had the opportunity to compete against the best of the best, meeting people from all over the world who share their passion for Cheer and Dance.

The team also had the opportunity to meet dancers from the renowned Golden Girls from Golden Dance and Cheer Academy all the way from Colombia.
In 2017, Monash Mystics competed for the last time under the MONCAD banner at the Dance Worlds Competition. This team was our All-Star Open Pom team which was populated largely by MONCAD alumni.
2014 was the first year Monash competed at an international competition, taking home 2nd place in the World University Cheerleading Championships.
The team went from a Level 1/2 squad to a world class Level 6 team in the space of a month and a half, due to an unexpected qualification at Nationals in November. The dedication and talent of the athletes was rewarded with a silver medal, and the opportunity to do a demonstration run in front of the 8000 NCA Nationals competition crowd.
In 2016, our very own Cheer team was once again selected to represent Australia at the World University Championships, in the Premier (Level 6) division. The team brought home the gold as World Champions!
Monash Mystics Uni Pom took out 6th place in a competitive division at the World University Championships in Florida in 2016. The team also came 5th in the Nationals Cup!
MONCAD has been consistently churning out amazing results every year, reflecting the dedication and hard work the athletes put into training and team work. It's always great to see hard work pay off, our athletes focus on the journey to the competition, dedicating time and effort into achieving these results.
